Last night The CW had their biggest night in 3 years with the premiere of Arrow. The action drama based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow/Oliver Queen scored 4 million viewers with a 1.3 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic. So was this show worth all the hype leading to it? Well if you ask me I'll give you a resounding "we'll see".
Having been marooned on a desert island for 5 years billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns to his home Starling City. Queen was shipwrecked after the yacht carrying him, his father, and his lover was sunk, he was the only survivor. On his return he sees his city in decline and has come to the conclusion that the shipwreck may not have been so accidental. With that in mind he begins his one man crusade for justice and dawns a green hood and packs a bow and arrow, a weapon of which he has become a master of during his time on the island. Starring Stephen Amell as Queen/Arrow this show was well acted and the story was compelling for a pilot. The action was well done but can get a little Bourne-y at times (up close shaky camera). There is still no hint as to whether metas (people with super powers) will be a part of the show but there is a reference to Black Canary possibly. The tease for next week's episode shows the inclusion of another DC Universe character China White, played by Kelly Hu. I liked the pilot episode of Arrow and the appearance of other DC characters so soon in the run of the show tells me that we are in store for something that comic fans can get behind. Now if I can only get some of those Arrow abs.
